# Payout Pools

> The funds you send to ZBD for payouts. Every payout draws from your pool.

Your payout pool holds the funds you've sent to ZBD for payouts. A payout can only be initiated if the pool covers it. Crediting earnings doesn't touch the pool.

## How funding works

1. You send funds from your treasury to the account ZBD provides for your organization.
2. The funds land in your pool, in your funding currency.
3. Once they settle, the full amount is available to pay out.

Funding is always a push from your side. ZBD never pulls from your account.

## Funding currency and conversion

Your pool holds one funding currency. Users are paid in [their own currency](/embedded-payouts/methods-and-coverage), converted at the rate quoted at the time of the payout, so the amount leaving your pool can differ from what the user receives.

## When the pool is short

If the pool can't cover a payout when it's initiated, the payout fails the [funds check](/embedded-payouts/how-payouts-work#checks) and nothing is paid. Top up and try again. Users aren't shown a failure caused by funding, but payouts stop until you top up.

## Settlement timing

Funds become available once they settle with ZBD, and timing depends on how you send them. Plan top-ups so users aren't left waiting on your funding to settle.
